阿伯泰邓迪大学的前身是1888年建立的邓迪科技学院。大学是一所友善的学府，拥有学生4700名，68%的学生来自苏格兰，4%来自欧洲之外的国家如中国、印度、马来西亚和巴基斯坦。学校的宗旨是"以学生为中心"，大学充足的资源配置和富有支持性的学习环境，以及对学生细致入微的照顾充分体现了这一点。阿伯泰迪大学位于泰河河畔的邓迪市中心，所有的建筑物都环绕在荣获多项大奖的大学图书馆周围，大学创造出了一个富有支持与友好氛围的学生环境。大学设有四个学院:计算机学和高级技术学院、邓迪商学院、当代科学学院以及社会与保健科学学院。

该校是计算机设施投资最高的英国大学;是全英大学图书馆设施投资最高的五所大学之一*;荣获多项奖的图书馆。
正如《金融时报》(2002年5月)*评论的那样，阿伯泰邓迪大学在投资学生用的计算机设施方面，居于领先地位。学生可使用电子与其他信息资源，这对于学习开设的每个课程至关重要;校园上下有供学生使用的联网计算机;每台电脑可供四名学生使用，这个比例是全英大学中最高之一。大学目前正在实施一项确保大学的硬件与软件都是行业标准的强化方案。这些设施使学生能免费使用因特网。
1998年6月女王陛下为大学的图书馆正式揭幕。图书馆内有设备齐全的教授信息与信息技术技能的讲座室、小组学习室、语言中心与自习室，以及法律专科图书馆。图书馆的某些部门24小时都供学生使用信息技术与学习设施，以及休息场所.
